Le Groupe Jenaco won the first edition of the Concours Hydro-Nickel organized by the magazine Plomberie, Chauffage et Climatisation (PCC) and the distributor Deschênes & Fils. This competition is intended to honour impeccable hydronic design that addresses the various challenges and complexities resulting from the very nature of the project. In addition to the capacity for innovation, the judges take into account things such as cost-effectiveness, simplicity of design, and ingenuity.
The project submitted by Jean-Sébastien Landry, Eng., partner and project director at Le Groupe Jenaco, was the Tour des Canadiens 3 project. This is a 55-storey high-rise with 565 condominium units that ranks as the tallest building of its kind in Québec.
One of the main challenges of this project was undoubtedly the height, which requires “rigorous management of water pressure (overpressure, thermal expansion, flow regulation, etc.),” said Mr. Landry. The three-phase delivery also required adjustments. Other features of the project mentioned by Jean-Sébastien Landry were the design of the system to improve the speed and quality of onsite assembly with the creation of a well-ordered mechanical room to facilitate maintenance.
“It is with great pride that we accept this first Concours Hydro-Nickel award,” added Jean Turgeon, company founder and president. “This is fantastic recognition for the work done by the entire planning team and on the job site. This clearly illustrates synergy in action and our expertise, especially in high-rise buildings.”
Le Groupe Jenaco was awarded the contract for the plumbing, gas, and chilled water, as well as the installation of the hot water supply system for the Tour des Canadiens 3 after having done similar work for the Tour des Canadiens 2.
